International Students
Eligibility for All Summer Courses
- You must be age 18 years or older, and a university student in good standing in your home country.
- You must have proficiency in the English language. A TOEFL score of 79 is required for non-native English speakers before your registration is confirmed.
Additional Requirements for In-Person or Hybrid Courses
- To qualify for a Rutgers-sponsored F-1 student visa, you must register for enough credits for full-time study. Full-time study is defined as one credit earned for each week of study.
- Have a valid passport valid for at least six months beyond your period of stay in the United States (unless exempt by country-specific agreements)
- Show sufficient proof of living expenses
- Obtain at least a minimum level of health insurance coverage and show proof of adequate coverage
- Evidence of current immigration status if currently in the United States

Step 1: Apply as a Visiting International Student
Fill out the form. Once approved, your RUID and Personal Access Code (PAC) will be emailed to you.
Step 2: Register for Classes
Using your RUID and PAC register for your classes at WebReg.
Step 3: Activate your NetID Register for Classes
Activate your Rutgers NetID here.

- Are you currently enrolled at another College/University and would like to transfer your I-20 to Rutgers University for the Summer/Winter?
If you have answered “Yes”, please follow the steps listed below to complete your application and enrollment into the course.

Step 1: Apply as a Visiting International Student
Fill out the form. Additional information may be requested by Rutgers Global regarding your application. Once approved, your RUID and Personal Access Code (PAC) will be emailed to you.
Step 2: Register for Classes
Using your RUID and PAC register for your classes at WebReg.
Step 3: Activate your NetID and Complete Forms
Activate your Rutgers NetID here. You will receive a link to access to Rutgers Global Portal to upload Certificate of Funds, Funding Source, Immunization and Health Records.
Step 4: Receive Certificate of Eligibility
Your I-20 (F-1 visas) or DS-2019 (J-1 visas) Certificate of Eligibility and supporting documents will be mailed to you. These are necessary for your visa application.
Step 5: Pay the SEVIS fee
Once you’ve received your I-20 or DS-2019, you will need to pay a SEVIS fee to the US Department of Homeland Security. In order to pay, complete the Form I-901 along with the payment via mail or the Internet (dependents in F-2 or J-2 status are not required to pay the fee).
The SEVIS fee must be paid at least three business days prior to a visa interview or the filing of the change of status application in the US. Make sure you keep a printout of the receipt confirming the I-901 fee payment.
Step 6: Apply for and receive an F-1 or J-1 student visa
Use the I-20 or DS-2019 issued by Rutgers to apply for your visa. All non-immigrant visa applicants must complete Forms DS-160 (online non-immigrant visa application). You can access this form at https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/forms.html
Applicants will also need to appear for an in-person interview at the U.S. consulate in their home country in English and must pay a visa application fee.
Step 7: Arrival
Once student receives their F-1 or J-1 visa, student can travel to the US with valid passport and I-20 or DS-2019. Students should enter the US no more than 30 days before the start date on your I-20 or DS-2019.
After you arrive to the United States, you will need to complete an online check-in using RGLOBAL. This is a legal requirement of your F-1 or J-1 status. This process can be started before arrival but must be completed once you arrive in the United States.
